  • Share a folder on Ubuntu through VBox (Win 7 as host)
    • Share the folder through VirtualBox Device menu
    • Install VBox Guest Additions on the guest OS (Ubuntu)
      • Mount Virtualbox ISO Image by clicking on Devices -> Install Guest Additions… in the Virtualbox Guest window that is currently running your Linux OS (Guest).
      • Copy the addition installer (VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run) to a temp folder ($home)
      • Make the installer executable (sudo chmod +x VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run)
      • Run the installer (sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run) to create vboxsf type for later use
    • Mount the shared folder on Ubuntu
      • Create a mount point (sudo mkdir /media/vboxshared)
      • Mount the path with “vboxsf” type (sudo mount -t vboxsf SHARENAME /media/vboxshared)
  • Install PostgreSQL
    • Download from PostgreSql.org (personal preference, because we are using VM and want to minimize the growth of the vhd/vdi, I usually keep those downloads on a separate disk to wipe out later. More details about structure local VM)
    • sudo ./postgresql-9.0.4-1-linux.bin
  • Root Password? – Ubuntu restricts its root privilege so you can not “su -” to root and execute any commands from there. Instead, just do a “sudo” and enter your own password to execute like root
